The Chinese company Cheung Kong Holdings was the holding company of the Cheung Kong Group and was headquartered in Hong Kong . In June 2015, the holding company was reorganized and merged with Hutchison Whampoa to form the new company CK Hutchison Holdings . Part of the holding was re-established as Cheung Kong Property Holdings .

Overview

The group consisted of ten companies that were listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKSE). The market capitalization of the entire group was HK $ 815 billion in May 2007.

The Cheung Kong Group has operated in a variety of businesses, from real estate and media to telecommunications to biotechnology, ports and retail. It operated in 55 countries and had 240,000 employees.

Li Ka Shing founded Cheung Kong Industries in 1950 as a plastic manufacturing company. Under his leadership, the company grew rapidly and developed into a construction and investment company. In 1972 he floated Cheung Kong (Holdings), in 1979 he took over Hutchison Whampoa Limited, which at that time was almost 50% owned by Cheung Kong (Holdings).

Prior to the merger, Mr. Li Ka Shing was chairman of Cheung Kong (Holdings) Limited and Hutchison Whampoa Limited. His eldest son, Victor Li, was the managing director and vice chairman of Cheung Kong (Holdings) Limited, vice chairman of Hutchison Whampoa Limited, and chairman of Cheung Kong Infrastructure Holdings Limited and CK Life Sciences Int'l., (Holdings) Inc.
