Chi Cheng (born March 15, 1944 in Hsinchu , Taiwan ) is a former Taiwanese athlete who won an Olympic bronze medal in 1968.

Chi Cheng had already taken part in the Olympic Games in 1960 and 1964 , but was eliminated in the hurdles in the preliminary run, not very spectacularly, in 1964 she also competed in the pentathlon and finished in 17th place. Her performance improved by leaps and bounds when she attended California Polytechnic State University and was trained by Vincent Reel. At the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City , she won the bronze medal in the 80-meter hurdles last held as an Olympic discipline behind the two Australians Maureen Caird (gold) and Pam Kilborn (silver). In the 100-meter race , she was in Mexico City Seventh.

In 1969 she ran two world records on yard courses. Chi Cheng competed three times at many events, on both sprint courses and in the hurdles. In total, she started in 71 races in 1969 and won 70 races, losing only once to Barbara Ferrell . In 1970 she set seven world records, including 11.0 seconds over 100 meters in Vienna, 22.4 seconds over 200 meters in Munich and 100 minutes later 12.8 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles . She was honored with the Associated Press Sportsman of the Year award for this .

In December 1970 she won the 100 meters at the Asian Games in Bangkok. After 84 unbeaten races in 1970, her body no longer played along; Chi Cheng suffered injuries for three years, then ended her career.

With a height of 1.71 m, her competition weight was 61 kg. Chi Cheng married her coach Vincent Reel in late 1970, but the marriage only lasted a few years. Afterwards Chi Cheng returned to Taiwan and got involved in politics, so she was a member of the NOK Taiwan. She was elected to the Legislative Yuan three times during the KMT's sole rule and was a member of parliament from 1981 to 1989. In 2009 she appointed President Ma Ying-jeou ( Kuomintang ) as one of his political advisors, after which she became a US citizen she had previously held together with the Taiwanese had to give up. Chi continued to be the presidential advisor under the new President Tsai Ing-wen ( DPP , from 2014).
