Maureen Caird

Maureen Caird (born September 29, 1951 in Cumberland , New South Wales , Australia ) is a former Australian athlete and Olympic champion .

As a young teenager, Caird had considerable success in several disciplines in Australia. Her favorite route, however, was the 80 meter hurdles , in which she also set a new world record and became the youngest national champion at the time. In the same year she was accepted into the Australian Olympic team.

The 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico became extremely successful for her, winning the 80 meter hurdles in front of Australian Pam Kilborn (silver) and Taiwanese Chi Cheng (bronze). She then retired from active sports and emigrated to New Zealand , where she still lives today.
