Chick Quest is a post-punk / indie rock band from Vienna , Austria. The formation's original concept was to create chord progressions from soundtracks of old spaghetti western films from the sixties of the 20th century, such as the works of Ennio Morricone , with danceable post-punk from the late 1970s and '80s à la Talking Heads , B52’s , manicured Connect Noise or The Clash . The band name itself is a homage to old B-movie titles and should be understood as "A girl on a quest" rather than "Guys on a quest for chicks".
history
Ryan White (vocals / guitar), an American from Athens who currently lives in Vienna , started the project at the beginning of 2014 together with the Austrian Iris Rauh (drums). The original goal of the two was to hold a live dance party for their friends in small clubs, where they would play music that they themselves like to dance to, but which is usually difficult to find in Vienna. In mid-2014, Magdalena Kraev (bass) was added, and Marcus Racz (both also from Austria) finally completed the lineup on trumpet and keyboard in early 2015.
The original dance party idea eventually developed into larger concerts and festivals, a live performance on Austrian television, a debut album that received plenty of praise from the press, a listing on Pitchfork , song premieres by KEXP & CMJ, and a mention as one of the best six albums of 2015 in the well-known Austrian newspaper Der Standard .
In 2016 the band started work on their second album, which was released in February 2017 and featured by AlternativePress , Noisey , Intro and BrooklynVegan, among others . The second single "Exit Strategy" finally appeared on FM4 Soundselection 36, which was released in June 2017 .
