The Chinese Ocean University ( Chinese  中国 海洋 大学 , Pinyin Zhōngguó Haìyáng Dàxué , local abbreviation: 海 大 , Haìdà ) is best known for its marine and fisheries studies . In addition to these core competencies, it covers the areas of engineering , economics , law , agriculture , literature , language (including German), medicine , pharmacy and philosophy . It is one of the key Chinese universities and reports directly to the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China .

history

The university was founded in 1924 as a private institution. After the "Shandong Ocean University" (山东 海洋 学院) was founded in 1959, it became one of the key Chinese universities in 1960. In January 1988 it was renamed Qingdao Ocean University, and in October 2002 it got its current name.

location

The oldest campus is the Yushan campus in the old town of Qingdao in the former German Bismarck barracks. A modern campus, the Fushan Campus, is located in the east of the city. In 2006 the Laoshan campus was founded in the district of the same name .
