Chittenango Falls State Park is a state park in the area of Madison County , New York with the waterfall of the same name.

geography

The 193 acre (78 hectare) state park is located in Madison County, east of Cazenovia Lake . It extends along Gorge Road <13> and follows the course of Chittenango Creek from south to north. The eponymous waterfall has a height of 167 ft (51 m) and arises on a step from 400 million years old bedrock. From the base of the waterfall, Chittenango Creek runs through a wooden bridge and then in natural meander loops . Approx. 45,000 visitors come to the park every year. An existing campsite was closed in the 2000s.

Flora Fauna

Chittenango Falls State Park is also the only habitat of the endemic and threatened Chittenango Ovate Amber Snail ( Novisuccinea chittenangoensis - Chittenango Amber Snail ).

Freetime activities

The park offers various recreational opportunities: picnic areas, playground, nature discovery trail, hiking and fishing opportunities. However, the path to the waterfall is closed in winter.
