Choir Festival Vienna

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Vienna Choir Festival is an annual series of events for fans of choral music . It was brought into being by the Vienna Choir Forum in the 1990s and takes place on 6-7 consecutive days at the beginning of June . The locations of the open air concerts are scattered all over Vienna and change over the years through all 23 city districts. Usually atmospheric places in the old town centers of the former Viennese suburbs or the church square of the respective parish church are chosen. In bad weather the concerts take place in the church itself.

Four or five choirs work together on each of the dates and agree on a program that is as diverse as possible. In the last few years there have been 28 choirs, most of them from Vienna . Choirs from neighboring Austrian federal states also take part, as well as some guest choirs from nearby countries . In addition to the joy of making music, the events also serve to stimulate the choirs and to get to know rarely performed choral works .

Since 2007, over 300 choirs with around 10,000 choir singers have participated in these choir weeks.
