Chris Butler (born February 16, 1988 in Hilton Head Island , South Carolina , United States ) is an American cyclist .

Athletic career

Chris Butler has been involved in international cycling races since 2009. In 2010 he signed a contract with BMC , the following year he had his only start in a major tour at the Giro d'Italia , but could not finish it. In the following years he changed teams several times, but remained without major success. In 2016 he won the Israeli Tour of Arad and won a stage of the Tour de Hongrie . In 2017, he was third at the Bob Cook Memorial .

In 2017, Butler injured his elbow in a fall and then got a life-threatening infection that could have cost him his arm. It was not until June of that year that he was able to contest his first race on the Route du Sud after five months of illness .
