Chris Garneau (born November 5, 1982 in Boston , Massachusetts ) is an American singer-songwriter and musician.

Life

Garneau, originally from Boston , lived with his family in Paris and later in New Jersey before moving to New York. He discovered his love for music while he was learning to play the piano in high school . He was also interested in musical theater and later enrolled for a role in the musical Spring awakening ( Spring Awakening a) that the Tony Award was awarded. After a short break from this role, which he took for his solo tour, he quit it entirely in order to embark on a music career. Duncan Sheik , who wrote the music for Spring Awakening and is friends with Garneau, helped produce the debut Music for Tourists , which was written over a period of five years.

In 2007 he received international attention for his singles We don't try and Relief from his debut album. Since the release of his debut in October 2006 on the independent label Absolutely Kosher , Garneau has been touring in cities that are important for this scene, such as New York and Seattle, and later several times in Europe.

His EP C-Sides was released in December 2007. Recorded for a long time, the album El Radio was released in July 2009 (USA) , which was released in Europe on the Fargo label.

style

Garneau's soft and intimate voice is often compared to songwriters like Rufus Wainwright . Like Wainwright, Garneau lives as an openly gay , but stated in an interview that this fact does not affect his music. His role models include Jeff Buckley , Nina Simone , Elliott Smith and Chan Marshall (Cat Power). He is often compared to the eminent independent musician Sufjan Stevens .
