Chris Landreth (born August 4, 1961 in Hartford , Connecticut , USA ) is an American director of animation films . He works mainly in Canada .
Life
After studying at the University of Illinois and doing his Masters in theoretical and applied mechanics there in 1986 , he had difficulty finding work and therefore worked for a few years as an engineer for the American military. In 1994 he joined the Canadian animation company Alias and experimented with 3D software .
Landreth released the six-minute animated film The End in 1995 , in which the director portrayed himself as he creates the film and ponders an end for the work. The End was successful at several festivals and was at the Oscar Awards 1996 as Best Animated Short Film nomination. This was followed in 1998 by the roughly four-minute short film Bingo , which received similar attention as Landreth's previous film. It is about a man who is terrorized by clowns and is persuaded that his name is bingo.
In 2004, the 14-minute animated film Ryan was released , which shows an interview Landreth had conducted with Ryan Larkin . He was a successful animator in the 1960s and 1970s, but over time he lost his family and became homeless because of his alcohol and drug addiction. Ryan has received multiple awards, was in critical favor and won, among others, the Oscar and the Golden Nica .
