Chris McKinstry
Chris McKinstry (born February 12, 1967 in Winnipeg , Manitoba , † January 23, 2006 in Santiago de Chile ) was a researcher in the field of artificial intelligence . In July 2000 he founded the Mindpixel project. Before Mindpixel, he led the development of the MISTIC project, which started in May 1996.
Life
McKinstry was a Canadian citizen, but lived for a long time in the city of Antofagasta in the north of the South American state of Chile . After returning to Canada for a short time, he lived in Santiago de Chile until his suicide . He announced his suicide on a blog and discussion forum on January 20th.
Until 2002 he was telescope and instrument operator on the Very Large Telescope for the European Southern Observatory in Chile. In 1984, he appeared as a competitor on the final season of the Canadian game show Reach for the Top . With this broadcast, the Canadian Alex Trebek , the host of the game show Jeopardy! , his breakthrough. McKinstry committed suicide on January 23, 2006.
In 2010 the documentary The Man Behind the Curtain was released, which revolves around McKinstry's innovative work and emotional problems.
