Chris Merritt (football coach)

Chris Merritt (* 7. December 1969 ) is an American American football trainer.

career

Merritt played from 1988 to 1992 for the college team of Indiana University , 1993 and 1994 he was part of the coaching staff of Eastern Illinois University . From 1996 he was a member of the coaching staff of George White with the Hamburg Blue Devils in the football Bundesliga, where he was responsible for the defense. After White's death in September 1996, Merritt moved up to the position of head coach and led the team to win the German championship title in October 1996, after the Eurobowl had already been won under White in the previous season . In June 1997 Merritt led Hamburg to defend their title in the Eurobowl, in 1998 he and his team achieved their third consecutive Eurobowl victory in front of 11,700 spectators in Hamburg's Millerntor Stadium . The finals for the German championship in 1998 and 1999 Merritt lost with the devils against Braunschweig . After the 1999 season, the American and the Hamburg team parted ways. In the 2000 game year, Merritt was the head coach of the first division club Stuttgart Scorpions .

He returned to the United States and initially worked on the coaching staff at Thiel College (state of Pennsylvania ), then from 2001 to the end of 2018 as head coach at Christopher Columbus High School in Miami (state of Florida ). He led the student team twice in the final for the championship in the state of Florida. During his time at Christopher Columbus High School, Merritt also worked for the US Football Association at times and was a member of the coaching staff of the U19 national team, which became world champions in its age group in 2009. In December 2018, he was introduced as the new head coach of the college team at Bryant University , Rhode Island .
