Christ the King Church

Christ-König is the Catholic church in Adendorf , a municipality in the district of Lüneburg in Lower Saxony . It belongs to the parish of St. Marien , based in Lüneburg , in the Lüneburg deanery of the Hildesheim diocese . The church bears the patronage of Jesus as Christ the King (Rex Christ) and is located in Wacholderweg 12. The catchment area of ​​the church comprises over 30 villages in the region between Lüneburg and the Elbe .

history

After the end of the Second World War , Catholic expellees , mostly from Silesia , also settled in the area around Lüneburg, which has been Protestant since the Reformation . At first they belonged to the parish vicarie Lüneburg-Land, Adendorf was the service station of the Lüneburg St. Marien parish. In 1958 the parish vicarie Adendorf was founded.

On October 21, 1962, the foundation stone was laid for the Church of Christ the King , and on August 11, 1963 it was consecrated by Bishop Heinrich Maria Janssen . Her name, Christ König, was a wish of her pastor at the time, who had arrived at the Friedland camp on Christ the King's Festival in 1949, having come from a Soviet prisoner of war . On January 1, 1964, the Adendorf parish was established. In 1971 she got a branch church in neighboring Bardowick, which has since been profaned with St. Marianus . Since August 1st, 2004 the church belongs to the parish of St. Marien in Lüneburg. The “Local Management Team Christ-König”, the successor to the Freundeskreis “FFK” (Friends of the Christ-König Church), supports the activities of the parish today.

Architecture and equipment

The church, located around 29 meters above sea level , was built according to the plans of the architect Karlheinz Bargholz from Hamburg .
