history

The church was designed by Charles Dyer in 1841 , the steeple by John Norton in 1859 and the naves by William Basset Smith in 1885.

In 2015 the church was closed for two weeks after strong winds damaged the steeple.

architecture

The cruciform limestone building with a slate roof was built in the style of the early English Gothic. The choir has a 5/8 ending. The north transept is supported by a buttress .

The five-story spire steeple is 65 m (213 ft) high. The entrance is covered with Purbeck marble at its foot . The western gallery in the church is supported by cast iron pillars in wood paneling.
