Christa Gebhardt

Christa Gebhardt (born in the 20th century) is a former German disabled athlete.

Career

Christa Gebhardt comes from Dresden and is severely disabled. Since she wanted to do competitive sport despite this handicap , she became a member of the Sportgemeinschaft Versehre Dresden e. V. As the sport that suited her, she chose table tennis , which she practiced in singles, doubles and in a team. Her achievements soon justified being used in international competitions and then achieving success there. In 1991 she was second in the women's singles at the European Championships and thus the winner of a silver medal . With the German National Disabled Sports Team, she took part in the 1992 Paralympic Summer Games in Barcelona , where she won a bronze medal with the team . At the European Championships in Denmark in 1995 she was there again and won a silver medal in both singles and doubles. In 1996 she took part again in the Paralympic Summer Games, but without reaching a medal.

For winning the bronze medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics, she was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf by Federal President Richard von Weizsäcker - like all German medalists .

Christa Gebhardt was elected Sportswoman of the Year in Dresden in 1997.
