Christel Tennyson (born December 23, 1925 in Reval ; † November 16, 2010 in Roth ) was a German mineralogist and professor emeritus at the Technical University of Berlin .

Life

After attending grammar school in Reval and Krotoschin , Tennyson began her studies of mineralogy and crystallography at the University of Regensburg , which she completed with her doctorate in 1953 at the Technical University of Berlin .

Tennyson initially worked as an assistant to Hugo Strunz at the Institute for Mineralogy in Berlin and Friedrich Hegemann at the State Research Institute for Applied Mineralogy in Regensburg, but then in 1956 became head of the X-ray department at the Institute for Mineralogy and Crystallography at the TU Berlin. From 1963 she was also in charge of their mineralogical collection as an academic adviser and curator. Four years later, she completed her habilitation with her work on the systematics of borates and was appointed professor of mineralogy and crystallography.

Christel Tennyson was known throughout her life as a tireless, meticulous and conscientious scientist and university professor who, despite her numerous positions in the DMG and IMA and her scientific work on the special mineralogy of the Upper Palatinate and the Bavarian Forest, did not miss any of her courses.
