Christen Købke
Christen Schjellerup Købke (born May 26, 1810 in Copenhagen , † February 7, 1848 in Copenhagen) was a Danish painter. He is one of the most famous painters of the " Golden Age " of Danish painting.
Life
Christen Købke grew up as one of eleven children of the baker Peter Berendt Købke and his wife Cecilie Margrete. In 1822, at the age of 12, he began his education at the Royal Danish Academy of Art in Copenhagen. Here he studied first with Christian August Lorentzen and after his death in 1828 with Christoffer Wilhelm Eckersberg .

In addition to portraits, Købke painted numerous landscape views of his hometown Copenhagen and its surroundings. From 1838 to 1840 he stayed in Italy. He created large-format views with Italian motifs on the pictures of the last years of his life.
Pictures of Købke hang u. a. in the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek , in the Heinrich Hirschsprung Collection in Copenhagen and in the Scottish National Gallery in Edinburgh , in the 2010 the exhibition Christen Købke. Danish Master of Light was shown.
