Christian Buhmann (sculptor)

Christian Buhmann (* 1906 in Hanover ; † 1990 in Laatzen ) was a German sculptor and restorer .

Life

Christian Buhmann was the son of the sculptor and restorer Friedrich Buhmann , in whose Hanover workshop he completed his apprenticeship and worked. His mother was Berta Auguste, née Schiegert (1880–1947).

After the time of National Socialism and the end of World War II , Christian Buhmann took over his father's workshop in 1950, which he had rebuilt in the meantime in the Seilerstraße in the Südstadt district after the destruction by aerial bombs during the air raids on Hanover and which his son had in 1956 in the street Large barlings misplaced.

  • 1950 to 1970: Continuation of the restoration work started by the father in the former Lamspringe monastery
  • Restoration work on baptismal fonts in churches in Lower Saxony (e.g. St. Agidius, Hülsede (1951), Wülferode chapel (1975))
  • 1963 to 1965: Conservation work and retouching work on the ceiling painting of the court arbor of the Lüneburg town hall
  • Additions to the carvings as part of the half-timbered renovation on the "Breast Cloth", a patrician house from 1521 in Goslar
