Christian Cappelen
Christian Cappelen (born January 26, 1845 in Drammen , † May 11, 1916 in Oslo ) was a Norwegian organist and composer .
He studied music in Leipzig and Dresden . For many years he was the organist in Drammen. 1887–1916 he was the organist at the cathedral in Oslo and thus held an important position within Norwegian church music. He gave concerts all over the country and was particularly known for his improvisations on the organ. From 1890 to 1916 he taught at the theological faculty of the University of Oslo . As a composer he was influenced by the music of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy and Robert Schumann . Among other things, he wrote songs, organ and piano pieces and cantatas.
