The Ekalesia Kelisiano Tuvalu (EKT, English Congregational Christian Church of Tuvalu , German about Christian Church of Tuvalu ) is a congregational church in Tuvalu . As a state church, 94 percent of the inhabitants of the Pacific island state belong to it. It goes back to the missionary work of the London Missionary Society since 1861 and was part of the Christian Congregational Church of Samoa until it became independent in 1969 .
The number of members is around 10000. The church is in 18 parishes divided and has 23 pastors . EKT has been a member of the World Council of Churches since 1980 . She is also a member of the World Fellowship of Reformed Churches and the Pacific Conference of Churches .
The church publishes a bulletin in Tuvaluan and English and runs the Motufoua Secondary School , a secondary school and the Fetuvalu Secondary School in Funafuti .
Its Vice President is Reverend Tofiga Falani .
