Prince Christian Franz of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld

Christian Franz von Sachsen-Coburg-Saalfeld (born January 25, 1730 in Coburg , † September 18, 1797 ibid) was a prince of Sachsen-Coburg-Saalfeld and a general.

Life

Christian Franz was the third son of Duke Franz Josias of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld (1697–1764) from his marriage to Anna Sophia (1700–1780), daughter of Prince Ludwig Friedrich I of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt .

Christian Franz, like his brothers Johann Wilhelm and Friedrich Josias , was destined for a military career. In the imperial service he was promoted to colonel in 1756 and major general in 1763 . On June 20, 1756 in Leitmeritz he was one of the founders of the Order of St. Joachim , whose Grand Master he became the following year. In 1758 he was taken prisoner in Silesia but was released back to Coburg.

Christian Franz had been the bearer of the Order of the Red Eagle since 1777 and had the “ Neuer Weg ”, Coburg's first bypass road, built in Coburg.

His grave monument in the classical style is in Neuses .
