history

The first written mention of Neuses is dated to 1289. The place name at that time "Nvesez" or "Niusez" should mean "new seat", probably in the sense of "knightly residence". In 1346 Neuses came into the possession of Count Heinrich von Henneberg and his wife Jutta through an exchange of goods . At the beginning of the 17th century the Rosenauer owned the estate. The Thirty Years War hit Neuses very hard; after the end of the war there were only two houses left in 1638. The estate changed hands several times with Peter Popp, a ducal chamber clerk, the Nattermann family and Ratsmedicus Fischer. From the Fischer family, Neuses came into the possession of the poet Friedrich Rückert (1788–1866) in 1839 , who from 1848 onwards stayed in Neuses permanently.

The village of Neuses developed along what was then the main street (now Friedrich-Rückert-Straße), which ran in north-south direction, with Goldbergstraße as a north-western junction. The village was bounded to the west by the Lauterbach, the southern border is at the confluence of the Sulzbach in the Lauterbach. Three mills used to be in operation on Lauterbach. The church is located about in the middle of the old village on Friedrich-Rückert-Straße, next to it is the school. To the west, the former manor and the Rückert-Park adjoin Friedrich-Rückert-Straße.

Neuses was incorporated into Coburg on July 1, 1934 with 1329 inhabitants and 275 hectares of parish area.
