history

Former parish hall

Creidlitz, a Slavic settlement that formed on the Itz, is older than the city of Coburg. In the year 870 it was mentioned for the first time with the name "Grilizi" in a royal document from Ludwig the German . It was on a trade route between Nuremberg and Leipzig. In 1910 the place had 614 inhabitants. On July 1, 1920 he came to Bavaria after a referendum and the subsequent state treaty with the Free State of Coburg . As part of the regional reform on July 1, 1972, the community was incorporated into the city of Coburg with 1788 inhabitants and 230 hectares . The last mayor was Hans Blümlein from 1946 to 1972, after whom a recreation area on the old sports field is named.

politics

coat of arms

The Creidlitz municipality coat of arms shows a golden sword and a golden key crossed diagonally in black, including a silver horseshoe.

The horseshoe reminds of the location of the place already known as the Carolingian royal estate on the former main road from Leipzig via Nuremberg to Northern Italy.

The sword and key were taken from the coat of arms of the Benedictine monastery in Saalfeld , which became an imperial abbey in 1074 and a prince abbey in 1497. Converted into a secular monastery in 1516, it was secularized in 1525 . Until the Reformation, the extensive monastery property also included goods from a gift from the Polish Queen Richeza in 1075.

The municipal flag adopted together with the coat of arms shows the stripes yellow, black and white according to the colors of the new municipal emblem. In 1762 the municipality only had the Saxon shield with the diamond in the seal, similar to the municipal coat of arms of Drossenhausen .
