Pierre Magnan

Pierre Magnan (born September 19, 1922 in Manosque , † April 28, 2012 in Voiron ) was a French author of crime novels.

biography

Pierre Magnan attended school in his hometown until the age of twelve, which he left at the age of thirteen to work as a typesetter in a printing company. At the age of twenty he was drafted into the youth work service ( Service du Travail Obligatoire ), deserted and fled to the French resistance fighters ( maquis ) of the Isère department . In 1946 he published his first novel, which was received positively by the critics, but had little success with the public. The following three novels were also not a hit with the public. He earned his living in the following years as an employee of a transport company, but in his spare time he continued to write novels that no one wanted to publish.

It was not until 1976 that the detective novel Le sang des Atrides received attention and two years later it received the Prix ​​du Quai des Orfèvres . Now a new career began for Magnan. In 1984 he wrote his best-known work La Maison assassinée , which was also awarded and filmed. In his crime novels, his fictional character, Commissioner Laviolette, mainly investigates Provence . Pierre Magnan lived in Forcalquier until his death .
