Hambach is a southern part of the Upper Franconian town of Coburg , which goes back to a former estate .

geography

The place is about four kilometers southeast of Coburg in the narrow valley of the Hambach, a left tributary of the Itz . A farm road from Creidlitz opens up the farm in Hambachgrund, a protected part of the landscape with an area of 7.6 hectares . The valley floor consists of hillside and gorge forest as well as open land habitats with orchards and field trees.

history

In 1340 Hambach was first called "Hanbach". The spelling of the place name from 1451 "in the Haynbache" includes the defining word "hain". It was therefore also a settlement at that time, which was located on a grove and was traversed by a stream.

In 1351 the Lords of Schaumberg gave up their property on the Hambach. The settlement passed into the possession of the Saalfeld monastery and was subordinated to the Coburg provost . Around 1500 Hambach was a sheep farm . Due to its location in the narrow, wooded Hambachtal, the place was not destroyed in the Thirty Years War , unlike the neighboring Creidlitz. At the end of the 19th century the manor was fully integrated into the community of Creidlitz.

In 1925 Hambach counted seven people and one residential building. The Protestant church was in Niederfüllbach , 1.6 kilometers away , and the Protestant school in Creidlitz, 0.4 kilometers away. In 1950 the estate had 15 residents plus one residential building and in 1961 nine residents. In 1970 nine people lived in the place. In the course of the regional reform , Creidlitz and the Hambach part of the municipality were incorporated into the city of Coburg on July 1, 1972.
