The Coburg-Steinücken airfield is a special airfield and one of the two airfields in the Upper Franconian city ​​of Coburg . It is supported by the Flugtechnische Arbeitsgemeinschaft Coburg e. V. operated.

geography

The airfield is located about four kilometers south-east of the historic town center of Coburg in the Steinrück parcel in the area of ​​the municipality of Niederfüllbach . It is located on an exposed high plateau to the left of the Itz valley , parallel to the Füllbach valley , at an altitude of 357 to 361  m above sea level. NN one kilometer east of the Coburg district of Creidlitz .

The airfield is naturally located in the Coburg region; to the east the area rises to the Franconian Forest , south to the Franconian Alb and west to the Haßberge . The state border with Thuringia runs ten kilometers to the north .

history

The Aviation Technical Working Group Coburg was founded in 1955 and initially shared the premises of neighboring clubs. In 1967, the current site was moved into and expanded into an airfield.

Infrastructure and equipment

The airfield is for aircraft of all types up to 2000 kg MTOW and has no regular operating hours. A path that crosses the slope is secured by a set of traffic lights. The operator of the airfield is the Flugtechnische Arbeitsgemeinschaft Coburg e. V. Landing is only possible with the owner's permission ( PPR ).

There is a clubhouse with a workshop, a tower (frequency 129.805 MHz) and a hangar. There is a winch launch facility, tow planes and a refueling facility.

Incidents

  • On August 5, 2012, a Piper PA 28 -181 had an accident shortly after take-off on EDQY, crashed into a forest and burned out. All four inmates were killed.

Local roads connect the airfield to federal highway 4 running to the west and to federal road 303 running south , a feeder to the east running A73 . The public transport does not serve the airport; the closest boarding option is in Creidlitz to the Werra railway .
