The Thalmässing-Waizenhofen airfield is the airfield of the Middle Franconian town of Thalmässing in the Roth district . It is run by Rainer Struller.

geography

The airfield is located two kilometers south of the historic center of Thalmässing and one kilometer west of Waizenhofen in the Gilling parcel at an altitude of 573 to 580  m above sea level. NN . In terms of nature, it is located in the Franconian Alb , the Franconian Lake District extends to the northwest and the Hahnenkamm to the southwest .

Airfield and equipment

The airfield is a special airfield for all types of aircraft up to 2000 kg maximum take-off weight (MTOW), helicopters up to 5700 kg and has no regular operating hours. Landing is only possible after prior registration ( PPR ). The place carries the ICAO identification EDPW.

At present, private pilots of predominantly microlight aircraft and helicopters are landing and taking off there. The Skydive Colibri skydive club is based in Thalmässing Waizenhofen with a Pilatus PC-6 as a skipping machine. The square also has a maintenance facility for helicopters and microlights.

There is a commercial and workshop building with a tower (frequency 128.860 MHz), a hangar and the club's casino.

Incidents

  • On July 20, 1985, a hang glider crashed.
  • On September 13, 2006, came light helicopter type Hughes 269C in autorotation exercises hard, and then rolled over in an adjacent agricultural land. The pilot was slightly injured and the aircraft was badly damaged.
  • On May 6, 2016, the Pilatus PC-6 stationed at EDPW lost the right elevator after dropping eight parachutists in flight , but landed slightly damaged.

The airfield can be reached via gravel roads from the state roads St 2225 and St 2227 . The federal motorway 9 runs seven kilometers to the east , to which there is a driveway in Greding .
