The Feuerstein Castle Airfield is a commercial airfield near the Upper Franconian town of Ebermannstadt . It is the location of the state performance center for air sports in Northern Bavaria.
geography
The airfield is located about four kilometers northwest of the historic town center of Ebermannstadt in the Mirsberger Höhe parcel . Immediately to the south is the Feuerstein observatory and both the Wiesent valley to the east and the Main-Danube Canal to the west serve as a good orientation for visual flight approach .
The airfield is naturally located on an exposed plateau to the right above the Regnitz valley . To the east the terrain rises to the Franconian Switzerland , to the west it drops to the Aischgrund .
Airfield and equipment
The airfield is approved for aircraft of all types up to 2000 kg and is usually in operation from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The operator is the Fränkische Fliegerschule Feuerstein e. V. There are several farm buildings , a tower (frequency 130.780 MHz), four hangars and an airport restaurant. There is a gas station (Avgas, UL91).
Due to the obstacle situation in the west, the operational routes in this direction have been shortened to 835 m. There are also two glider grass tracks of 300 and 350 m in length. The taxiways are paved.
Incidents
- On August 19, 2002 a Diamond DA20 lost its engine power after touching down and taking off at low altitude and hit a mound. A student pilot was seriously injured, the flight instructor was only slightly injured, and the aircraft suffered considerable material damage.
traffic
A local road opens up the airfield via the FO 5 district road to the federal motorway 73 , which runs six kilometers to the west . The public transport does not serve the airport directly. The closest boarding options are in Ebermannstadt or Eggolsheim on the Nuremberg – Bamberg railway line . There is also a connection to inland shipping in the ports of Eggolsheim .
