The airfield Thannhausen is the airport of the Swabian town of Thannhausen in the district of Günzburg . It is run by the Mittelschwäbischer Luftsportverein e. V. operated.
geography
The airfield is located about two kilometers northwest of the historic town center of Thannhausen in the Hochauteile parcel at an altitude of 491 m above sea level. NN in the valley of the Mindel .
In terms of nature, the perennial hill country extends to the east , and to the north the terrain slopes down towards the Donauried .
history
Aviation has been in operation in Thannhausen since the 1930s. From 1945, the Germans were initially banned from flying by the Allied occupying forces . The Mittelschwäbische Luftsportverein e.V. , founded after the flight ban was lifted in the 1950s . V. started flying at the neighboring airfields until the area in Mindelgrund could be occupied. In the beginning, the space was also used by the model pilots until they built their own runway a few hundred meters further south in 1961. Since then, the airfield has been continuously expanded, it received approval as a special airfield and the aircraft hangar with workshop and the managed clubhouse were built.
Airfield and equipment
The airfield is a special airfield for all types of aircraft up to 2000 kg maximum take-off weight (MTOW), helicopters up to 5700 kg and has no regular operating hours. The owner and operator of the airfield is the Mittelschwäbische Luftsportverein e. V. Landing is only possible after prior notification ( PPR ). The place carries the ICAO code EDNU.
There is a farm building, a ground-level flight control center (frequency 118.180 MHz), a hangar, a winch launch facility and a club house. There is a petrol station for stopovers.
The grass runway (RWY08 and RWY26) is 500 meters long and 30 meters wide.
Incidents
- On November 2, 2008, crashed gyrocopter type Auto Gyro MT-03 with touch-and-go Exercises on EDNU. The aircraft caught fire in the air and crashed, fatally injuring the pilot.
traffic
The airfield is located directly on the state road St 2023 , which connects to the federal road 300, which runs 700 m to the east . The public transport does not serve the airport directly. In Thannhausen you can board three bus lines of the Verkehrsverbund Mittelschwaben , line 600 to Augsburg and Krumbach , line 830 to Jettingen and line 831 to Mindelheim .
