The airfield run Lillinghof is a special airfield , which in Nuremberg county land is located and the glider Sports serves.

Brief description

The airfield is located on the southwestern edge of the Epperlesberg summit plateau . The double name of the airfield is based on the one hand on its operating association, the Glider Club Lauf, on the other hand on the hamlet of Lillinghof, which is only a few hundred meters southeast of the field .

The airfield is located ten kilometers north of the city of Lauf , the seat of its operating association, and about seven kilometers northwest of the town of Schnaittach , to whose municipality it also belongs.

history

The airfield was created in the 1950s by the Segelflug Club Lauf eV, founded in 1929. In the run-up to this, first tests were carried out in 1955 on what will later be the site of the site. After these had produced positive results, construction of the airfield began. With the official approval in 1957, the first regular flight operations began. In the period that followed, the site was gradually acquired by the previous property owners, so that it is now fully owned by the operator association. At the same time, the tower and the other operational facilities on the square were built, mainly through the use of volunteers. Part of the grass runway was asphalted in 1994, and this measure, which was implemented primarily for noise and safety reasons, also improved the starting options for the field.

Apart from normal flight operations, special events are occasionally held on the field. So every two years about the Nuremberg Astronomical Association , the Star Party Lillinghof organized. This event, which is freely accessible to everyone, is organized by members of the working group and last took place in August 2013. Another special event is Rock im Hangar , which is also free of charge. It takes place in and around the hangar of the airfield.

The square got into national headlines due to an aircraft accident that occurred on September 5, 2010. In addition to numerous injuries, there was also one fatality.
