The airfield sun is a special airfield near the Lower Bavarian community suns .
geography
The airfield is located on a plateau, two kilometers east of the historic center of Sonnen near the Oberneureuth district at an altitude of about 820 m above sea level. NN . The runway runs a little downhill to the north, so that runway 02 touches down at 824 m, while runway 20 only touches down at 812 m above sea level. NN . To the west, the terrain rises to the 947 m high Oberfrauenwald ; in natural terms it belongs to the southern Bavarian Forest . The state border with Austria runs nine kilometers to the east and that to the Czech Republic 14 km northeast .
Airfield and equipment
The airfield is approved for all types of aircraft up to 2000 kg maximum take-off weight (MTOW), helicopters up to 5700 kg and has no regular operating hours. The private operator is Flugplatz Sonnen GmbH. Landing is only possible after prior registration ( PPR ). The course guides the ICAO code EDPS.
There are several farm buildings , a tower (GE 118.960 MHz), a hangar, a restaurant and overnight accommodation on site.
Incidents
- On July 20, 2013, a Cessna arriving from Austria missed the end of the runway on landing, crossed the county road and came to a standstill in the ditch, severely damaged. The pilot was not injured.
- On July 24, 2014, another Austrian failed to land with his Piper . He also crossed the street and only came to a stand in a meadow, badly damaged.
- On June 12, 2016, a two-person microlight that took off from Suben got into a fog bank early in the morning while approaching EDPS. The pilot lost his orientation and pulled the reserve parachute at about 400 m altitude. The pilot and passenger were not injured as a result, but the aircraft was totally destroyed in the impact.
