The Zell-Haidberg airfield is the airfield of the Upper Franconian municipality of Zell in the Fichtelgebirge . He is from the Luftsportgruppe Münchberg e. V. operated.

geography

The airfield is one and a half kilometers west of the market cell in the parcel of the lower Haid at 579  m above sea level. NN high plateau of the northern Haidberg (693 m). The Saxon Saale flows two kilometers to the east . The state border with the Czech Republic runs almost 30 km to the east .

history

Aviation has been in operation in Zell-Haidberg since 1951, initially using the grounds of neighboring clubs. At the end of the 1950s, the current site was occupied and has been continuously expanded into an airfield since then. The grass runway got an asphalt strip in 1985.

Airfield and equipment

The airfield is a special airfield for aircraft of all types up to 2000 kg maximum take-off weight (MTOW), and has no regulated operating times. The operator is the Luftsportgruppe Münchberg e. V. Landing is only possible after prior notification ( PPR ). The place carries the ICAO code EDNZ.

There is a farm building with a ground level control center (frequency 123.375 MHz), a hangar and a clubhouse. There is a winch launch facility for gliders and a tow plane is also available.

Incidents

  • On October 18, 2003, a Schleicher ASK 21 sagged on landing and hit hard, causing the fuselage to break off. The machine was badly damaged, the pilot was uninjured.

traffic

A communal and district road connects the airfield to the west-running, motorway-like federal road 2 , to which there is a driveway in Münchberg . The public transport does not serve the airport directly. In Münchberg there is an option to board the Bamberg – Hof railway line .
