The airfield Eichstätt is the Sonderlandeplatz the Upper Bavarian town of Eichstaett . He is from the Fliegerclub Eichstätt e. V. operated.

location

The airfield is located about two kilometers south of Eichstätt on a clearly exposed plateau , the Waschetten , (Bavarian expression, actual field name: Maierwiese auf dem Waschegerten ) at an altitude of 515 to 522  m above sea level. NN . To the west is the district of Wasserzell and the route of the Eichstätt branch line . The airfield is naturally located on the southern edge of the Franconian Jura . To the north, the terrain drops steeply to the Altmühl valley , to the south it gradually descends to the Schutter , both of which flow east into the Danube .

Airfield and equipment

The airfield is for aircraft up to 2000 kg and for helicopters up to 5000 kg. The owner of the airfield is the Fliegerclub Eichstätt e. V.

There are several farm buildings , a hangar , a workshop , a winch launch facility and there is a refueling facility . There is also a clubhouse with a terrace and a children's playground . A flight school and 15 aircraft are stationed at the airfield.

history

A glider and model aircraft operation took place in Eichstätt in a local group of the German Air Sports Association (DLV) before the Second World War . After the Allies' flight ban ended on January 6, 1950, the Eichstätt e. V. founded. In June 1951, the association began gliding, which was again permitted. After several starts at the Volksfestplatz, at the Häringhof and on the Aumühlwiesen, the airfield on the Waschetten was moved into in 1952 .

In 1975 some of the buildings on the airfield burned down, with four club gliders and two private planes being lost.

Incidents

  • On June 17, 1977, an airplane crashed near Dollnstein , killing a club member.
  • On August 5, 1978, a plane crash occurred in which a pilot and his wife were killed.
  • In June 1988 a Schleicher K 8 glider got stuck in the treetops on approach.
  • On June 6, 1998, a Bölkow 207 (registration D-EJAR ) crashed into the forest after a stopover in Eichstätt and burned out. Four people were killed here.
  • On September 8, 2018 to 16:15 collapsed ultralight aircraft of type WT-9 shortly after takeoff at the airport in good weather yet unknown reason from, both pilots were seriously injured.

A municipal road connects the airfield to the federal road 13 running immediately north in the Altmühltal . The public transport not operated the airfield, the nearest pick-up points are made in less than 2 km away Eichstätt- station and km in less than 3 remote water cell to the branch line Eichstätt and in about 3 km away Rebdorf to bus lines # 110 and No 120..
