The Bölkow Bo 207 was a civil sport aircraft produced by the German Bölkow GmbH . It is the only sports machine that was produced in large numbers in Germany in the post-war period.
development
The Bölkow Bo 207 was developed on the basis of the Klemm Kl 107C . Since this was based on a pre-war development and technically out of date with its wooden construction and cabin dimensions, it did not sell well. Thus (after the rights were transferred to Bölkow) in 1958/59 the 107C was transformed into the Kl 107D in the form of a larger four-seater with a more powerful engine. Due to fundamental changes to the design, it represented more of a new design than a further development. The fuselage was widened in the cabin area and provided with a larger canopy with a large panoramic window. In addition, the single-spar wings were now continuous and carried a 100-liter fuel tank on each side. The cockpit was also modernized and some fuselage and fairing parts made of glass fiber reinforced epoxy resin . Nevertheless, the plywood half-shell construction, which was elaborate in production, remained overall. The prototype with Lycoming four-cylinder engine O-360A1A with 132 kW and Hartzell variable pitch propeller HC-92-ZK-SD had its first flight on October 10, 1960 in Nabern and was first in Bölkow F207 in May 1961 and then in Bölkow Bo in July 1961 207 renamed. Designer Hans Erich Slany was involved in the design of the aircraft, especially the cockpit . In the same year, the second prototype and the first production machine of the Bo 207 took part in the Germany flight, with the Selk / Schnabel crew celebrating a victory. Series production began in 1962 in the new Bölkow factory in Laupheim , where a total of 92 units had been built by the end of production in 1966. At the beginning of the series, the list price for the standard version was 54,000 DM. There was also a T (trainer) version suitable for aerobatics with an aerobatic throttle, detachable cabin roofs and enlarged vertical tail, as well as a cheap version with an O-360A2A engine and Sensenich fixed propeller. The further development Bo 207B with nose landing gear was no longer implemented in favor of the Bölkow Bo 208 .
