Barbara Oesterheld

Barbara Oesterheld (born September 15, 1951 in Berlin ; † May 13, 2009 there ) was a German politician ( AL / Greens ).

Life and work

After graduating from high school, she began studying sociology at the Free University of Berlin , which she completed in 1977 with a diploma in sociology. Then she went to Africa and got involved in the children and youth sector. She worked professionally as an educator in a children's shop and in youth work, as a social worker in the care of the disabled, as a taxi driver, as a programmer and most recently as a tenant advisor and social planner.

Barbara Oesterheld died on May 13, 2009 as a result of cancer. On May 26, 2009, she was buried in the Trinity Cemetery II in Kreuzberg.

politics

Oesterheld was a member of the Kreuzberg SPD from 1975 to 1985 . In 1987 she became a member of the Alternative List (AL). From 1989 to 1992 she was parliamentary group leader of her party in BVV Kreuzberg and there from 1992 to 1994 a member of the executive committee.

Oesterheld was a member of the Berlin House of Representatives from 1995 to 2006 . She was directly elected three times for the Kreuzberg constituency 2 and in 1995 was the first green member of the state parliament to receive a direct mandate. Since 2001 she has been active in parliament with particular commitment in the Bankgesellschaft investigative committee .

In 2007 she was elected regional chairman of the Berlin Greens. Because of her progressive illness, she resigned from this position in 2008. Stefan Gelbhaar was chosen as her successor .
