history

Aviation has been in Passau since 1927, u. A. run by veterans of the First World War , at the time at Kohlbruck near Passau. A separate hangar was built there in 1934 for the two club aircraft. In the course of the war preparations, the association was forcibly dissolved in 1937 and the association's assets along with the aircraft were "confiscated". After the Second World War , Germans were banned from flying in 1945 by the Allied occupying power . Shortly after the lifting of the flight ban, the Flugsportverein Passau – Fürstenzell e. V. re-established in 1950/51 and the facilities at Kohlbruck were restored by 1956. In 1958 an own club home was built there and flights continued until 1960. After that, the area there was rededicated to a location for the German armed forces. In the years that followed, the premises of neighboring clubs were initially used, until today's airfield could be developed from 1963. A new aircraft hangar, clubhouse and workshop were built there by 1965; the runway was a grass runway. In 1972 the runway of the airfield was then tarred and from 1976 onwards it became a location for the Bavarian Air Rescue Unit . The airfield has been continuously expanded since then.

The airfield is approved for all types of aircraft up to 3000 kg maximum take-off weight (MTOW), helicopters up to 5700 kg.
