The Pegnitz-Zipser Berg airfield is the airfield of the Upper Franconian town of Pegnitz . He is from the Flugsportverein Pegnitz e. V. operated.
geography
The airfield is located about two kilometers east of Pegnitz in the Lehen parcel on the southern slope of the Zipser Berg at an altitude of 532 to 546 m above sea level. NN . In terms of nature, the airfield is located in the eastern foothills of Franconian Switzerland . Eight kilometers to the southeast is the Grafenwöhr military training area and to the northeast the terrain rises to the Fichtelgebirge .
history
The area was leveled in 1974 with personnel and technical assistance from the US Army stationed in Pegnitz and has been used as an airfield since 1975. In 2014 the runway was paved.
Infrastructure and equipment
The airfield is a special landing place for gliders and motorized aircraft up to 2000 kg MTOW , as well as for helicopters up to 4000 kg and has no regular operating hours. The holder of the airfield is the Flugsportverein Pegnitz e. V. Landing is only possible with the owner's permission ( PPR ). The place has the ICAO code EDQZ.
There are several farm buildings , two hangars, a workshop, a tower (frequency 132.025 MHz) and there is a refueling facility. The grass runway, almost one kilometer long, has a polyethylene strip at least 8 meters wide and 935 meters long. A section of it is marked as a taxiway over a length of 750 m.
Incidents
- On June 18, 2005, a Morane-Saulnier Rallye 180T-D got into a tailspin during a tow start when the Schleicher Ka 6 CR it was towing exceeded the towing machine several times. Both planes then crashed and were destroyed. Two people were injured.
