The Landshut-Ellermühle airfield is a airfield southwest of the city of Landshut . Two flight schools, several maintenance and repair companies, a maintenance base for rescue helicopters and the airline PTL Luftfahrtunternehmen are located at the airfield .

history

From 1956 the city tried to find a location for an airfield. Five years later, construction began on the current site. The Landshut air sports club then built the first facilities within two years, including a hall and a grass runway. The first day of operation was August 26, 1962, the official opening took place on May 19, 1963. In 1967 a tower and a restaurant were set up.

In 1975 the sponsorship was transferred from the air sports club to the city of Landshut, and since January 1, 2002 the Stadtwerke Landshut has been the operator of the airfield.

From the end of the 1990s, on the one hand, citizens' groups tried to close it, and on the other hand, businesses and flight clubs tried to expand the airfield. The background to this is that, among other things, the runway length of 900 meters no longer meets European safety standards. An expansion was rejected by the citizens of Landshut in two referendums in 2004 and 2008.

On May 27, 2011, the plenum of the Landshut City Council voted 24 to 16 in favor of renovating the runway costing around one million euros and widening the runway by three meters. A further expansion was waived in accordance with the referendum. The corresponding construction measures were implemented in autumn 2012.

Since January 1st, 2018 the "Landen in Landshut GmbH" has been operating the Landshut airfield
