The airfield White Horn is the Sonderlandeplatz the Swabian town of Weissenhorn . It is operated by the Neu-Ulm flight ring .

geography

The airfield is located about two kilometers southwest of Weißenhorn on a gentle hill between the valleys of the Iller and the Roth , the so-called Millerholz , at an altitude of 501  m above sea level. NN . The federal highway 7 runs two kilometers to the west to Ulm and five kilometers to the west is the state border with Baden-Württemberg .

History and infrastructure

The history of aviation began in Weißenhorn in August 1939 with the construction of the Weißenhorn air tank farm of the Wehrmacht . Aviation fuel and ammunition were stored on the area at the edge of the forest, which was secured with flak . It was bombed several times during World War II. After the end of the flight ban imposed by the Allies , aviation in Weißenborn was revived for general aviation and the area was gradually expanded into an airfield.
The airfield now has a hangar , a helipad , a managed clubhouse, a lifting platform tower (119.425 MHz) and a filling station for Avgas and Super. The airfield is approved for aircraft of all types up to 5700 kg and has no regular operating hours. Landing is only possible after prior registration ( PPR ).

Incidents

  • On October 3, 2013, a Schempp-Hirth Nimbus 4M motor glider crashed into a maize field while approaching EDNW. The aircraft was seriously damaged and the pilot was slightly injured.
  • On August 7, 2020, a glider in flight collided with a single-engine light aircraft near the airfield. The two-person motorized aircraft was able to make an emergency landing on EDNW, severely damaged, and the glider crashed into a grain field, with the pilot fatally injured.
