The Neuburg-Egweil special airfield is the airfield of the Upper Bavarian city of Neuburg an der Donau and the municipality of Egweil . It is run by the Fliegerclub Egweil e. V. operated.

geography

The airfield is located about one kilometer west of Egweil and six kilometers northeast of Neuburg in parcel Mauretfeld at an altitude of 410  m above sea level. NN .

In terms of nature, the terrain rises to the west and north to the Franconian Jura , to the south and east it slopes down to the Danube valley .

history

Aviation had been in use in Neuburg since the early 1920s, at that time in Zell . The airfield there was expanded into a military airfield from 1936 and almost completely destroyed by the USAAF bombing it in the spring of 1945 during World War II. After the occupation by Allied troops in April 1945 , the area there remained fallow and the Germans were forbidden to fly.

After the lifting of the flight ban in 1951, the association Fluggruppe Neuburg e. V. became active again in aviation on various agricultural and meadow areas in 1952. From 1954 onwards they started to revitalize the airfield in Zell and in 1957 a simple lightweight aircraft hangar was built there. In 1961 the Luftwaffe also moved back to the site and flight operations became increasingly difficult. They looked around for another suitable area, and did the Fliegerclub Egweil e. V. together and started operations on today's airfield. In 1962 it was approved as a special airfield, hangars were built, a workshop and in 1967 the pilot's home. Another hall was built in 1984 and the tower followed later. Since 2012, the sailors of the Fluggruppe Neuburg have been using the tarmac at the Neuburg -Zell air base again, so that in Egweil almost all flights are powered.

Airfield and equipment

The airfield is approved for gliders and powered aircraft up to 2000 kg and for helicopters up to 5700 kg MTOW (PPR). The owner of the airfield is the Fliegerclub Egweil e. V.

There are several farm buildings and hangars, a tower and a managed clubhouse.

  • On October 5, 1984, a Flightstar Ultralight crashed shortly after take-off. The rescue system was activated, but did not trigger due to the lower altitude. The pilot had a fatal accident.
  • In 1989 another plane crash occurred while landing on a field. The aircraft was destroyed, the pilot injured.
  • On May 23, 2014, a single -motor Klemm Kl 107 B (registration D-ELIK ) crashed near Egweil. None of the three inmates survived the accident.
