The Fliegerclub Eichstätt e. V. , FC Eichstätt for short , is an Eichstätt sports club for glider , motorized , ultralight and model flying . The club has been flying in the soaring Bundesliga since 2017 .

history

A glider and model aircraft operation took place in Eichstätt in a local group of the German Air Sports Association (DLV) before the Second World War . After the Allies' flight ban ended on January 6, 1950, the Eichstätt e. V. founded with 15 members . In June 1951, the association began gliding, which was again permitted. After several starts at the Volksfestplatz, at the Häringhof and on the Aumühlwiesen, the airfield on the Waschetten was moved into in 1952 .

In 1975 some of the buildings on the airfield burned down, with four club gliders and two private planes being lost.

The Eichstätt Aviation Club operates the Eichstätt airfield , which opened in 1952 and is located about two kilometers south of the city center . The place is a special landing site and has the ICAO code EDPE.

In addition to several farm buildings , a hangar and a workshop , the club's clubhouse is located there . Ten flight instructors are active at the Eichstätt Fliegerclub . The association owns nine gliders , two motor gliders , three motor planes and one microlight aircraft that are stationed at the airfield.
