NN . In terms of nature, it was located in Rangau , to the west the terrain rises to the Frankenhöhe , to the north it drops to the Zenn and Aischgrund and to the east the Rednitz Valley runs .

history

The airfield was laid out according to plan from 1934 and initially mainly served the training of pilots. The grass runway was about 940 m long and 30 m wide and remained unpaved, but was equipped with drainage . In the following years around 20 barracks for the teams and a canteen were built. Later, a cinema, a medical barracks, equipment and vehicle barracks, gasoline depots, gas stations, a flight control center with radio and telephone exchange, hangars, bunkers, flak positions , ammunition depots and an aircraft yard were added. The access roads were paved, a 65 × 25 m large extinguishing water pond was concreted at the tribal mill, and four sidings for replenishment logistics were built on the Bibertbahn railway station .

The facilities under the cover name Seidenschal were kept secret and have not been recorded in the maps of this era. The terrain on the edge of the forest was also difficult to make out from the air. A lighting system for the runway was available for the night approach .

In the last months of the Second World War , Unterschlauersbach also served as an operational airfield. The Bf 109 fighters manufactured by Messerschmitt were stationed there. Also Messerschmitt Me 262 were flown there and retrained pilots on these machines.

On April 5 and 8, 1945, the airfield was hit by American bombers during the Allied air raids on Nuremberg and most of it was destroyed.

Todays use

Immediately after the end of the war, the area was used for agriculture again. Apart from the access roads, only a few foundation strips and bunker remains have been preserved. The former extinguishing water pond was later tiled and now serves the community of Großhabersdorf as a natural swimming pool.
