In chemistry, the chlorobenzyl alcohols form a group of substances that are derived from both benzyl alcohol and chlorobenzene . The structure consists of a benzene ring with an attached hydroxymethyl group  (-CH 2 OH) and chlorine  (-Cl) as substituents . Their different arrangement ( ortho , meta or para ) results in three constitutional isomers with the empirical formula C 7 H 7 ClO.
