Christian Gottfried Hoffmann (also: Hofmann ; born November 8, 1692 in Lauban ; † September 1, 1735 in Frankfurt (Oder) ) was a German legal scholar and historian.

Life

The son of the pedagogue Gottfried Hoffmann (1658-1712) attended high school in his hometown and in 1711 moved to the University of Leipzig . Here he first studied the philosophical sciences, which he completed in 1714 with the receipt of the master's degree in philosophy. He then concentrated on studying law, secured his livelihood as a court master of nobles and received his doctorate in law from the University of Halle in 1716 .

In 1718 he became professor of natural and international law in Leipzig and some time later moved to the full professorship with the title de verb. Signif. et de reg Juris on. In the winter semester of 1722 he was rector of the alma mater . In 1723 he moved to the Brandenburg University of Frankfurt as a privy councilor and professor of constitutional law . Hoffmann was also a member of the Royal Prussian Academy of Sciences . He wrote a variety of legal writings and also dealt with historical research, journalism and cameralistics .
