Christian Haupt (born May 30, 1980 in Hanover ) is a German triathlete and Ironman age group winner (2016 and 2017).

Career

Mountain bike since 1995

His sporting career began in 1995 in mountain biking. There he became Vice District Champion, Vice Lower Saxony Champion and fourth in the North German Junior Championship in Cross Country. He also took part in the German championships in cross country and downhill. After that, he stopped doing competitive sport for some time due to injury. In 2002 he started again with competitive sports, but in the field of athletics. In the following year he was able to make his debut for TV Langen in the Bundesliga finals at the German team championships . In 2004 he switched to his current club Hannover 96 , to which he is still associated.

Duathlon since 2011

In 2011 Christian Haupt was looking for a new sporting challenge and switched to duathlon. In the first year he was able to record the success of becoming vice world champion over the sprint distance in the age group area. In 2012 he had to take time off due to illness.

In 2013 he developed into a triathlete and was able to make his comeback in competitive sports. In 2014 he was able to set an example with a victory in the middle distance in a time of 4:07:36 at the Wasserstadt Limmer Triathlon in Hanover. Furthermore, in Wilhelmshaven he became Lower Saxony's national champion over the middle distance with a new course record of 4:03:27 h. In addition, he became second overall and Lower Saxony's national champion in the age group on the Olympic distance in Peine.

In the 2015 season he achieved second place in the M35 age group at the Ironman 70.3 in Sankt Pölten. In addition, he defended his national championship title in the middle distance. On his long distance debut at Ironman Mallorca , he won the age group with a time of 8:52:30 h and was best amateur and ninth overall. In addition, with this performance he qualified for the 2016 Ironman World Championship in Hawaii. In 2016, he became Lower Saxony's national champion in the middle distance for the third time in a row. He also became vice-European champion at the Challenge Walchsee on this route . In addition, he was able to win the world title at Ironman Hawaii (40th overall) in the age group 35-39.

2017 was his best so far in his sporting career. He was able to win the age group in all Ironman 70.3 races. He was also always among the top three amateurs. In addition, he was 35th overall at the Ironman Hawaii. With this he could not only defend his title in the age group, but also celebrate the overall victory of all age groups.
