Christian Hugo

Christian Paul Maximilian Hugo (born October 16, 1962 in Gerolzhofen ) is a German physician specializing in nephrology and focusing on kidney transplantation , glomerulonephritis and vasculitis , acute kidney damage after chemotherapy and regeneration of kidney diseases. Since 2009 he has been a professor at the Medical Faculty of the TU Dresden .

Life

Born in 1962, Hugo graduated from high school in Wiesentheid in 1981 and began studying physics in 1982 . After moving to the medical faculty of the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg (1983), he studied medicine until 1989 , worked at the Würzburg University Clinic between 1989 and 1991 , received his license to practice medicine on February 19, 1991 and did his doctorate in the same year with his dissertation on the subject of "Influence of aldosterone application on the concentration of the atrial natriuretic factor (ANF) in defined brain areas: Experimental study on intact and adrenalectomized rats".

After Christian Hugo from 1991 to 1993 at the Medical Clinic 4 (Nephrology) of the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg , between 1993 and 1995 a training grant from the German Research Foundation , and between 1995 and 1996 a research grant (doctorate research assistant) of the Department of Pathology and Nephrology of the National Kidney Foundation at the University of Washington , he completed his habilitation in 1999 with a scientific thesis on the topic "The importance of thrombospondin-1 in the pathogenesis of inflammatory kidney diseases" at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg .

Between 1996 and 2011, Hugo worked at the Medical Clinic 4 (Nephrology) at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg , was licensed as a specialist in internal medicine in 1998 , and in 2001 as a specialist in nephrology, and between 2001 and 2009 was senior physician at the Medical Clinic 4 and head of the kidney transplant program at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg . In April 2007 he was appointed adjunct professor for nephrology and hypertensiology . In 2009 Christian Hugo became full professor for nephrology at the Medical Clinic III of the University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus Dresden .

Hugo has been Secretary General of the German Transplant Society since 2014 .
