Peter Kuckuk

Peter Kuckuk (born July 9, 1938 in Bremen ; † August 27, 2018 in Bremen) was a German historian and university professor .

biography

Kuckuk came from a middle-class family. Before the Second World War his parents were active in the Wandervogel movement of the Bündische Jugend , including him from 1949 to 1955. After graduating from the Hermann-Böse-Gymnasium in Bremen, Kuckuk studied history and German at the University of Munich from 1957 to 1964 , the University of Göttingen and the University of Hamburg . He did his doctorate in Hamburg with Fritz Fischer as Dr. phil. In 1958 he was a conscientious objector and member of anti- war organizations as well as an employee in the anti-nuclear movement .

He was a lecturer and then professor for regional history at the University of Bremen . From 1965 to 1998 he was a member of the SPD . From the mid-1970s to 1996 he lived on a leftover farm in Bremen, then temporarily in the interior of the island of Mallorca . He worked as a member of the editorial board of the semi-annual journal Workers' Movement and Social History .

Cuckoo was divorced. He had two sons and three grandchildren.
