Gene Dersin

Gene Dersin (* 1905 in Jemappes ; † 1985 in Florenville ) was a Belgian jazz and entertainment musician ( saxophone , clarinet ) and band leader .

Dersin played in the early 1930s with Lucien Hirsch et son Orchester (recordings for Columbia ) before he appeared with the Revellers and in 1936 recorded two titles for the Regina label for the first time under his own name (“Snowboat Shuffle”). In 1938 he was awarded the First Prize of the Hot Club des Belges . At the beginning of the following decade, Dersin led a big band in Brussels with which he recorded a number of popular jazz numbers for the Olympia and Metrophone labels in 1942, such as "At the Woodchopper's Ball", " Body and Soul ", " Begin the Beguine " and " The Peanut Vendor ". In 1943/44 his orchestra recorded another record (as Gene Dersin & Les Voix du Rythme with vocal accompaniment) for the Rhythme label (“Ridicule Swing!”, “Dans vos yeux / Ciriciribi”) and Decca Records , etc. a. the Warren - Gordon number "My Heart Tells Me" and the swing standards " One O'Clock Jump " and " Solitude ".

After the liberation of Belgium, he played at the ABC Music Hall , where he accompanied Bing Crosby and Mickey Rooney . In 1958 Dersin recorded for Telefunken with musicians from the Francis Bay Orchestra . In the field of jazz he was involved in 14 recording sessions between 1931 and 1958. In the 1960s he shifted more to dance and popular music ; In 1963 he presented the EP Baile, Cocktail Y Amor at Telefunken ; The album Wir Tanz Cha Cha, Samba, Merengue (Telefunken UX 4952) was released in German-speaking countries .
