Christian Kuss (born October 30, 1769 in Sønderborg , † December 18, 1853 in Bad Segeberg ) was a German author , preacher and historian .

Life

Kuss studied theology at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel and passed the official theological examination in 1793. After that he was rector at a private school in Glücksburg and in 1800 became a catechist in Reinbek . In 1809 Kuss became a deacon in Kellinghusen and in 1833 he was awarded the honorary doctorate. phil. at Kiel University. In 1839 he retired as pastor and lived for a while in Glücksburg, most recently in Segeberg, where he died at the age of 84.

In 1817 Kuss appeared for the first time as a writer with a plan describing the nature of the duchies of Schleswig and Holstein . Then followed an attempt at a detailed description of nature , 1819, 3 issues, of which the first was published in a second edition in 1820.

This occupation led him to historical research and he has made a great number of contributions to provincial history since then. Thus appeared small contributions to the knowledge of the Schleswig-Holstein prehistory in the Provincial Reports Schleswig-Holstein (1821, 1822 and 1823) as well as contributions to the antiquity (1824).

He also made rich contributions to the topography and especially to the local church history, including the history of all previous monasteries and treatises on the history of the Archdiocese of Hamburg-Bremen .

Later he also wrote the highly regarded yearbook of memorable natural events in the duchies of Schleswig and Holstein from the 11th to the 19th century (1825/26, 2 vols.) And the article: The city of Segeberg in the prehistoric times (Falk's archive) from which the volume V. were also printed separately (1845), as well as the five governors from the house of Rantzau-Breitenburg (Schleswig-Holstein-Lauenburgische Provinzialber. 1833).

The history of the Elbe duchies was greatly promoted in many parts by his critical studies and later earned special attention.

His daughter Johanna became particularly well-known through her book: The Holstein Kitchen or Instructions for Housekeeping in a number of proven instructions based on experience , which was widespread and of which the 10th edition appeared in 1876.
