Life

Christian Ludwig was born as the son of Conrad Ludwig and Johanne Ferdinandine Peters in Hildesheim. After training as a bricklayer, he went to Geestemünde and married Johanne Dorothea Müller (born February 15, 1823 in Bremen ) on March 3, 1854 in Geestendorf (Reg.Nr. 1854/6 ). His son Friedrich Louis Gottlieb Ludwig was a master builder in Bremerhaven .

From 1863 to 1868 he was an alderman in Geestemünde, from 1868 to 1880 community leader . During his twelve-year term in office, he campaigned for the economic and cultural upswing of the community. His achievement was above all the establishment of the Progymnasium in Geestemünde. After negotiations with Bremerhaven had failed and the responsible minister had refused to set up a state school, the community founded a Progymnasium on its own. On April 29, 1878, Christian Ludwig handed over the keys to the school to the director Holstein. In the first year, the number of 131 students exceeded the planned capacity by a third. From 1883 to 1893 Christian Ludwig was the royal compatronage commissioner for the higher education institution.
